For many delegates and their partners, the NAFD Annual Conference traditional begins with the Thursday evening ‘Early Bird Social’. This year, we welcome you and yours to the Guildford Harbours own ‘The Long Bar Late’. An extension of the Long Bar, the purpose-built exclusive bar combines an inspired drinks menu with elegant décor and design. Taking centre stage is a spectacular sweeping 120ft marble top bar, lined with plush stools and surrounded by relaxed stylish furnishings. Attendees will enjoy a glass of what takes your fancy, a range of tasty bowl foods and great conversation. We’re sure this informal event will get you in the mood forthis year’s Annual Conference.
Friday morning marks the start of the Annual General Meeting where reports of the various committees are given to ensure that our members are fully up-to-date on the Associations business for the period of 2018/2019 and any projections moving forward. It is also an important time for members to vote on how the Association progresses into the coming years. Please note that every vote matter, and that votes are one per organisation and not one per member firm.
During the AGM, we appreciate that not all of our members are eligible to vote and that some attend the weekend with their partners, therefore, we are pleased to provide an array of information on various activities, sights and tours across this beautiful city. When you Visit Guildford in the Heart of Surrey you will find a vibrant market town with first class shopping; restaurants covering a wide range of international cuisine, serving locally farmed produce; an historic town where you can step back in time to learn of Guildford’s past; the River Wey and its lush meadows to walk or picnic; the surrounding countryside full of exciting attractions to visit.
Friday night is set to be an experience like no other. Guests are invited to join us at The Denbies Estate, based in Dorking, Surrey. Denbies vineyard was planted in 1986, and since then has become one of the largest wine producers in the UK.
Guests will be split into three groups, each taking part in a cycle of three, not to be missed, tours.
Vineyard Tour: The Outdoor Vineyard Train Tour takes visitors at a leisurely pace, through the vineyard offering
magnificent panoramic views over the Vineyard and North Downs
Cinema Presentation and Winery Tour: The indoor tour commences in the newly refurbished cinema with a 20minute film, Vineyard, through the Seasons. This is followed by a walking tour through the working winery
Wine Tasting: This will take place in the magnificent cellar and includes a tasting of three of Denbies wines. Each selected to give visitors an overview of the quality and range produced from the vineyard
Finally, the three groups will come together for an evening of entertainment, drinks and networking.
As well as the NAFD’s Annual General Meeting, the education side of the Conference, commencing on Saturday, will include the usual packed programme of diverse speakers and debates, including a keynote session by the Manchester Coroner, Joanne Kearsley, on the experience and lessons learned from the response to the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombing terrorist incident in 2017. We are delighted to have Alan Fletcher from the Department of Health and Social Care join us to present on the work this department are delivered around the change in death registration and introduction of a non-statutory ME. We do have one more speaker lined up who we will announce shortly. The sessions on Saturday are sure to be of interest and above all educational.
In addition to a packed and exciting business agenda we are pleased to be once again hosting our prestigious Grand Banquet and Ball on the Saturday night. In a slightly different format to the norm, this will take place at the Mandolay Hotel, directly opposite the Guildford Harbour Hotel, in the Mandolay Suite; be sure to pack your black-tie attire and dancing shoes as with the entertainment planned, we are sure you will have a night to remember!!
